ASUS WL-520GU with Tomato Firmware

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router

The Asus WL-520GU is a budget-friendly router that's perfect for flashing with Tomato or DD-WRT firmware. These firmwares give you more features and control over your router, but they can be a bit daunting to set up.

Here are the steps on how to upgrade the firmware on your WL-520GU:
  1. Download the firmware from the Tomato or DD-WRT website.
  2. Rename the firmware file to WL520gu_2.0.0.9_EN.trx.
  3. Connect your router to your computer using an Ethernet cable.
  4. Open the web browser and navigate to the router's IP address.
  5. Log in to the router's admin page.
  6. Click on the "Administration" tab.
  7. Click on the "Firmware Upgrade" button.
  8. Click on the "Browse" button and select the firmware file that you downloaded.
  9. Click on the "Upload" button.
  10. Wait for the firmware to upload and install.

Once the firmware is installed, you can log back into the router's admin page and start configuring it.

I've been using Tomato firmware on my WL-520GU for over 6 years and it's been great. I love the extra features that it gives me, like bandwidth monitoring and QOS. I also like that it's very customizable.

If you're looking for a way to get more out of your WL-520GU, I highly recommend flashing it with Tomato or DD-WRT firmware. It's a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth it in the end.
