Are you seeing "This Connection Is Untrusted" in Firefox? Here's what to do!

Firefox untrusted connection alert page

If you're seeing the "This Connection Is Untrusted" error message in Firefox when you try to open a secure website, it's likely because your computer's date and time settings are wrong.

This is because secure websites use certificates to verify their identity. If your computer's date and time are wrong, the browser won't be able to verify the certificate, and you'll see the error message.

There are two ways to fix this problem:
  1. Change the CMOS battery. The CMOS battery is a small battery that keeps the date and time settings on your computer's motherboard. If the battery is dead or weak, it can cause the date and time settings to get out of sync.
  2. Install NetTime. NetTime is a free software program that can synchronize your computer's date and time settings with a central atomic time server. This will ensure that your computer's date and time are always accurate, and you won't see the "This Connection Is Untrusted" error message anymore.

Here's how to change the CMOS battery:
  1. Power down and unplug your computer.
  2. Open the case.
  3. Locate the CMOS battery. It's usually a small, round battery that's located near the motherboard.
  4. Carefully remove the old battery and replace it with a new one.
  5. Close the case and power on your computer.

Here's how to install NetTime:
  1. Download the NetTime installer from the NetTime website: https://timesynctool.com/.
  2. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Make sure that NetTime is set to start automatically when your computer boots up.
  4. Once you've done either of these things, you should no longer see the "This Connection Is Untrusted" error message in Firefox.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • If you're still seeing the error message after changing the CMOS battery or installing NetTime, it's possible that there's a more serious problem with your computer. In this case, you should contact a computer technician for help.
  • It's important to keep your computer's date and time settings accurate, even if you're not seeing the "This Connection Is Untrusted" error message. This is because many other applications and services rely on accurate date and time settings.

I hope this helps!

ASUS WL-520GU with Tomato Firmware

ASUS WL-520GU Wireless Router

The Asus WL-520GU is a budget-friendly router that's perfect for flashing with Tomato or DD-WRT firmware. These firmwares give you more features and control over your router, but they can be a bit daunting to set up.

Here are the steps on how to upgrade the firmware on your WL-520GU:
  1. Download the firmware from the Tomato or DD-WRT website.
  2. Rename the firmware file to WL520gu_2.0.0.9_EN.trx.
  3. Connect your router to your computer using an Ethernet cable.
  4. Open the web browser and navigate to the router's IP address.
  5. Log in to the router's admin page.
  6. Click on the "Administration" tab.
  7. Click on the "Firmware Upgrade" button.
  8. Click on the "Browse" button and select the firmware file that you downloaded.
  9. Click on the "Upload" button.
  10. Wait for the firmware to upload and install.

Once the firmware is installed, you can log back into the router's admin page and start configuring it.

I've been using Tomato firmware on my WL-520GU for over 6 years and it's been great. I love the extra features that it gives me, like bandwidth monitoring and QOS. I also like that it's very customizable.

If you're looking for a way to get more out of your WL-520GU, I highly recommend flashing it with Tomato or DD-WRT firmware. It's a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth it in the end.
